Fixing Filter Droop on the xBloom Studio Omni Dripper
Rhys EvansShare
At Central Coast Coffee, we’re big believers in precision brewing — and the xBloom Studio has become our daily driver for filter coffee. My wife and I use it four times a day, every day, and it’s easily our favourite way to enjoy the high-end coffees we roast for filter brewing.
Over the past year, I’ve developed and shared countless xBloom recipes for different coffees, carefully tweaking grind, dose, and yield to achieve perfect extractions. But recently, something strange started happening — my brews were tasting off and astringent and I found myself going finer and finer on the grind to achieve my targetted TDS levels of 18-22%. Here’s what I discovered and how we fixed it.
Spotting the Problem: Filter Droop
After months of chasing lower TDS readings and disappointing extractions, I noticed something subtle but important: the Omni Dripper 2 was beginning to droop under the weight of the water and coffee bed during brewing.
Instead of draining evenly through the centre, the flow began to shift to one side. This uneven pour caused poor extraction, forcing me to grind much finer just to hit target strength.

Over time, the droop worsened until my once-dialled-in recipes simply stopped working. I went back through older profiles only to find they too were now under-extracting unless I made the same extreme grind adjustments.
Why It Happens (and Why It’s Tricky to Diagnose)
The Omni Dripper 2 isn’t identical across all units. Some versions use springs to hold the dripper in place, while others don’t. Even among spring-equipped versions, the tension can loosen or bend over time, causing the filter holder to sag slightly when loaded.
This isn’t something you’ll always notice immediately — it often develops gradually. But as soon as the dripper loses its perfect alignment, your brew geometry changes, and so does your extraction.
The Solution: The xBloom Leveler Clip
After chatting with another customer who’d noticed the same issue, we designed and refined a tight-fit 3D-printed adapter that slides onto the end of your dripper to hold it firm, centred, and level throughout brewing.
This small clip completely solved the problem — my TDS readings stabilised, extractions improved, and my grind settings returned to normal.

Care & Maintenance Tips
-
The 3D print is intentionally tight — it’s designed to stay secure even with repeated use. You may think it doesn't fit when you first get it, but trust us, it does, try pushing firmer nd lineing it up better when you slide it on.
-
Do not wash it in the dishwasher. Heat will soften the plastic and reduce its grip.
-
Instead, rinse it by hand and occasionally deep-clean with Cafetto or another gentle cleaning agent.
-
Inspect your Omni Dripper every few months for any spring fatigue or uneven pour — early detection keeps your brew consistent.
The xBloom Studio remains one of the most innovative and consistent filter brewers on the market — and like any precision instrument, a bit of maintenance goes a long way.
If you’re chasing that perfect cup from your Central Coast Coffee filter roasts, keeping your Omni Dripper level is a small but powerful tweak that restores optimal flow and clarity to your brews.
